Bank of Japan adopts negative interest rate policy

Japan cut interest rates below zero for the first time in its history at the end of its two-day policy review on Friday, buckling under pressure to revive growth in the world’s third-largest economy, applying a rate of negative 0.1 percent to excess reserves that financial institutional place at the bank, effective February 16 2016.
